No people were injured, but one cat died Sunday in a house fire on Maple Avenue in Hartland, Fire Chief Dave Dean said. Firefighters called to the home saw smoke coming from the second floor of the house. Dean said firefighters were able to contain the fire to two upper bedrooms.

Milwaukee police: Parents arrested after 9-year-old girl was fatally shot by brother
A woman is seriously injured after being shot multiple times and the suspected gunman was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday morning, March 10. According to the Milwaukee Police Department, officers arrived to the area of 1st and Meinecke around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a shooting. At the location, officers found a 28-year-old Milwaukee woman who had been shot multiple times.

A Germantown teacher who was caught with marijuana in her purse has been fired.
The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating two non-fatal shootings that occurred within several blocks of each other but appear to be unrelated. At 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, a 27-year-old man arrived at a hospital with a serious gunshot wound. After a preliminary investigation, authorities believe the shooting happened near N. 35th St. and W. Wright St. Police say the victim was a passenger in a car when someone shot him. The victim is expected to be okay
A Madison man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for reckless homicide in the death of a toddler in 2016. Twenty-seven-year-old Joshua Gehde was convicted by a jury in December in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter, Sophia Huff. Prosecutors have said dozens of bruises on her body and blood clots in her head were caused by abuse from Gehde.
A tenant upset about a $30 rent increase shot and killed his landlord, rolled the body in a blanket and hid it in a garage before going out for drinks, a criminal complaint filed Wednesday said. Jason Christopher Tilley, 37, was arrested the following day while working at the Patrick Cudahy meat plant. He now faces life in prison plus an additional 10 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm if convicted.

Two people are facing homicide charges in the beating death of man in Ashland. Charging documents say 38-year-old Jennifer Mustache called her boyfriend to her home Feb. 25 after her daughter told her the victim, Marcus Holton, has touched her leg multiple times. Mustache told police the 52-year-old Odanah man had been staying at her home.
A witness report about a man fleeing a subdivision on the city's northwest side as a fire started in a nearby home led authorities to believe the fire is the work of an arsonist. Police said there's also evidence inside the home on the 9500 block of West Kaul Avenue that supports the theory, but they did not specify what that evidence was or how the arsonist got the flames going.
